In February 2026, the 2026 Winter Exchange Program on Machine Learning and Applications with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), jointly organized by the School of Computer Science and Engineering, the School of Software, and the School of Artificial Intelligence of Southeast University, came to a successful completion.

Led by supervising teachers, 37 students from multiple schools including the School of Computer Science, Software and Artificial Intelligence, the School of Information Science and Engineering, the School of Cyber Science and Engineering, and the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering departed for Singapore on February 4. After 8 days of immersive studies, corporate visits and cross-cultural exchanges, all students returned to China safely on February 11. All participants passed the comprehensive assessment and were awarded official certificates issued by NTU, among whom 7 students were recognized as Outstanding Participants, marking fruitful achievements of the program.

Leveraging the leading disciplinary strengths of NTU in Computer Science and Electrical & Electronic Engineering, this program adopted an innovative three-in-one training model combining theoretical lectures, group projects and enterprise visits, with a total of 24 class hours of systematic teaching. The courses were delivered by Prof. Jiang Xudong from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, NTU, whose research focuses on pattern recognition, machine learning, computer vision and other related fields.

The curriculum consisted of four core modules: applications of machine learning in prediction, decision-making and recognition, traditional machine learning, neural networks and deep learning from MLP to CNN, as well as advanced deep learning from CNN to Transformer. With progressive content, the lectures elaborated on cutting-edge theories and key technologies, and combined scientific research cases to help students understand the internal logic of machine learning. On the basis of existing knowledge, students further broadened their cognition of interdisciplinary development.

In addition to specialized courses, the program arranged a wealth of practical activities and cross-cultural experiences. Students visited The GEAR Innovation Platform under Japan’s Kajima Corporation and the smart R&D center at Singapore Changi Business Park. They gained in-depth insights into the application of intelligent sensing, space management technology and AI in the construction industry, and communicated face-to-face with industrial mentors, realizing the in-depth integration of theoretical knowledge and industrial practice.

Furthermore, participants visited iconic Singapore landmarks such as Merlion Park, Sentosa and Gardens by the Bay, as well as the National University of Singapore. The in-depth experience enabled students to appreciate the diverse cultural charm of Singapore, learn about the city-state’s practices in scientific and technological innovation, urban planning and sustainable development, and enhance their cross-cultural competence and comprehensive literacy.

After the program, an online questionnaire was distributed to collect students’ feedback. Participants gave overwhelmingly positive reviews. They stated that they had not only solidified their professional knowledge of machine learning and broadened their international academic vision, but also greatly improved their practical skills and cross-cultural communication abilities. The program also provided important inspiration for their future study plans and research directions.
